Desert Spring is a body of work that reflects how I feel about the beauty that surrounds me. It’s a collection of abstract landscape paintings from some of my favorite places in New Mexico, and maybe even a few from my imagination.

This is a love letter to my adopted state. Every April marks the anniversary of being able to call New Mexico home. From the first time I arrived I knew this was my home. It was like a piece of my puzzle was missing and I had finally found it. Each time I came to visit I found ways to stay longer, and each time it was harder and harder to leave. People ask me why I am so attracted to this place, and I have so many answers. The people. The mountains. The climate. The art. The views. The clouds. The space. The light.

My heart fills every time I look out my window and see my mountains. The voices in my head are quieted to a whisper, then they go silent and I can breathe. These mountains calm my soul. And I find so much peace in the wide open spaces. There is such a quietness in the depth of the vastness. It is soul soothing. Pieces of me come together and help me feel whole, for maybe the first time in my long life. This is where I need to be to feel like me.

It is with this feeling of coming together that Desert Spring has emerged. It poured out of me with a delicate and powerful strength. It got me up early and kept me up late, with vigorous intensity. These pieces want to be seen! Now they are ready to go out and enrich your life. My hope is that at least some of the love that I have poured into my little babies comes through and brings joy into your life as you create your own space that feel like home. — Kate
